MANCHESTER – Opening Friday and running through March 26, the musical “Hairspray” will be presented at the Palace Theatre, 80 Hanover St.
Walk through a puff of hairspray as the Palace transports you back to 1960s Baltimore, Maryland. Come meet quirky, plus-sized teenager Tracy Turnblad and her perky best friend, Penny Pingleton. Tracy wants nothing more than to realize her dream of dancing on her favorite local broadcast dance program, the Corny Collins Show.
Despite the odds against her, Tracy's dream becomes a reality. Shortly after her success, Tracy becomes an overnight sensation – all while dancing with her high school heartthrob, Link Larkin. On her way to the top, Tracy meets an array of colorful characters. Using her new-found fame, Tracy will stop at nothing to make sure the show is united. Along with climbing the social ladder and working to create racial harmony on the show, Tracy also bickers with her mother, Edna, a large woman who has a hard time accepting the music and dancing lifestyle of the teens.
“Hairspray” is a big musical featuring big comedy – and big hair! The hit musical – winner of 8 Tony Awards including Best Musical – features songs that will be sure to make you want to dance.
Tickets are $25-$45. Available by calling the box office at 668-5588 or online at bit.ly/2mGYrqz. More information at www.palacetheatre.org.
