MANCHESTER – This weekend and next, Manchester Community Theatre Players will present the romantic musical comedy “Promises, Promises” at the North End Montessori School, 698 Beech St.
Written by Neil Simon with music by Burt Bacharach and Hal David, “Promises, Promises” is based on the film “The Apartment,” starring Jack Lemmon, Shirley MacLaine and Fred MacMurray. The apartment in question is Chuck's, an ambitious bachelor who works for Consolidated Life Insurance. He is promised advancement if he allows his apartment to be used by executives for extramarital affairs, but it starts becoming a bit too popular. He soon meets Fran, who works in the company dining room, and there are lots of plot turns and twists as the situations get crazier and crazier.
Director Bruce MacDonald said, “The songs are very catchy. So many of the songs became popular hits, including I'll Never Fall in Love Again, Promises, Promises and I Say a Little Prayer. Even though the show ran for years on Broadway in the 1960s, it's not an 'old show,' having had a very successful Broadway revival in 2011 starring Kristen Chenoweth.”
Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, March 3, 4, 10, 11 and at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 5. Tickets are $20 adults, $18 seniors, $10 students 18 and younger. For tickets or information, call 1-800-838-3006 or visit www.mctp.info.
