Manchester Choral Society announces Jan. 30 open rehearsal

Wednesday, January 11, 2017

MANCHESTER – Manchester Choral Society invites interested singers from high school age and older to an open rehearsal for potential members at 7 p.m. Jan. 30 at Manchester Community Music School, 2291 Elm St.

Looking to sing incredible music this spring? Attend MCS' rehearsal for Leonard Bernstein's “Candide” – to be featured as part of this season's Masterworks IV Series, at the spring concerts April 29 and 30 at the Dana Center of St. Anselm College. It will be presented with full orchestra and professional soloists.

Voltaire's “Candide” is a satirical story in which the characters, regardless of social or financial status, suffer unimaginable adversity. Just when it appears all will be well, even more horrible things happen! Through comedy and Bernstein's fantastic music, its message is that one must strive to overcome adversity and not passively accept problems in the belief that all is for the best. Voltaire suggests that we must actively, physically work to make our own happiness.

To schedule an audition, contact Betty Dunn by email at or call 893-8501. Professional development hours are available for participating music educators; contact Kirsten Mohring at for further information.
