Hailing from Munich, Germany, the Oktoberfest tradition has taken on a world-wide life of its own. Celebrating all things German, from food, to games, to music, and of course—beer!
New Hampshire is the perfect setting for Oktoberfest celebrations. Our lovely autumn scenery, paired with the scent of fall in the cooling air, make the perfect complement to the flavorful, German beer selections! Many Oktoberfest events are family friendly, offering non-alcoholic beverages and plenty of fun for children as well as adults.
The Oktoberfest Event at Anheuser-Busch this weekend offers free admission to attendees 20 and under. This event will be composed of two sessions: Session One from 12pm-4pm, and Session Two from 6pm-10pm. Session One will include a ceremonial keg tapping with the Anheuser-Busch Brewmaster and the Chair of the Merrimack Town Council. This is the brewery’s first ever Oktoberfest event, and it will feature two of Munich’s most renowned beers–Spaten and Franziskaner. Assistant Tour Center Supervisor, Carla Reardon, explains, “Spaten is a Munich style lager. This was the world’s first Oktoberfest beer.” The Franzikaner, by contrast, is a wheat beer with a juicy taste. It is non-selzered, which Reardon explains will give it a slightly cloudy appearance.
Anheuser-Busch Oktoberfest guests will also enjoy delicious German fare including Bavarian pretzels, bratwurst, gingerbread cookies, and more; musical performances; a kids’ area with coloring and games; and traditional Oktoberfest fun and games such as Beer Stein Relays and Barrel Races! The famous Clydesdales’ stable area will be open from 10am-5pm, so be sure to bring your camera!
Reardon is confident this will be a great event and enjoyable for all. “This is a beautiful time of year in New Hampshire. We have a beautiful property and guests will enjoy learning about the beers. Anheuser-Busch has been a part of this community for forty-five years, and this is a great opportunity for us all to come together and celebrate this time of year.” When asked if she believes this event will become an annual tradition for the brewery, Reardon responds affirmatively, “I think that’s the plan!” We hope so, too!

Following the toast, visitors are invited to enjoy a variety of German-style beers, such as Spaten, Franziskaner and other seasonal favorites, paired with traditional German fare such as bratwursts, Bavarian pretzels and gingerbread cookies.
