A loaf of fresh baked bread brings happiness to even devils. ~Finnish Proverb
If you haven’t had a slice of Finnish cardamom bread with your morning cup of coffee, you haven’t lived. The Historical Society of Cheshire County and the Finnish Heritage Society-Sovittaja invite the general public to sample and sip at their Great Finnish Bread Bake-off on Saturday, April 29th from 10 am-12 pm. For a $5 entry fee, visitors will receive six (6) tickets to taste-test breads. Admission also comes with a ballot for the public to vote for their favorite home baker and commercial baker who will each receive a People’s Choice award. Anyone interested in trying more than six varieties is encouraged to purchase another six tastings for $5.00 more. The People’s Choice award will be announced at 11:30 am. The Finnish Heritage Society-Sovittaja of Rutland, MA, will serve a free cup of coffee to visitors, demonstrate bread making, and answer questions. Proceeds from the event support the Historical Society’s educational programming, dedicating to celebrating the variety of cultures and talents that make up Cheshire County. The Finnish Heritage Society-Sovittaja (FHSS) is a non-profit social, cultural and charitable organization devoted to promoting scholarship and Finnish heritage and culture.
