Event Details

We are pleased to announce that the 3rd edition of the Myanmar Infrastructure Summit 2017 (MIS2017) is scheduled to be held at Sule Shangri-La, Yangon, Myanmar from March 29th – 31st, 2017.

Myanmar has extensive biodiversity and abundant natural resources. Approximately one-third of Myanmar’s 62 million population lives in townships and cities. Chronic underinvestment in urban infrastructure—including in housing, connectivity, electricity and water supply, healthcare, education and tourism infrastructure — has resulted in serious deficient urban services throughout Myanmar. Large resettlement areas in Yangon and Mandalay have urban services that are well below acceptable levels, and the situation is worse in the poor regions and other states of the country.

Under the Framework for Economic and Social Reforms, the Myanmar government has indicated that immediate priority will be given to improve infrastructure projects including land connectivity, transportation links with regional economies to boost economic integration, improvement of basic amenities such as affordable housing, universal electrification, safe drinking water, modernised sewage system, and the overall long term plan is to transform Myanmar into a world class green metropolis.

Myanmar’s construction industry growth is expected to remain strong over the forecast period (2014–2018) which translates to USD 5.6 billion by 2018 and this requires an additional of USD 19 billion to facilitate the growing infrastructure demand. This growth is supported by the country’s political stability, an increasing number of investment opportunities in energy and public infrastructure projects, and the rapid inflow of foreign direct investment (FDI). The industry is expected to record a CAGR of 11.94% over the forecast period with plans to construct four addition industrial estates, seven satellite cities, border cities for regional trade, tourism attractions, natural resources-oriented cities and 11.8 million public homes over the next 20 years.

Supported by the Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC), Mandalay City Development Committee (MCDC) and Myanmar Engineering Society (MES) along with key stakeholders, the Government of Myanmar plans to pursue balanced territorial development with the aim to upgrade its infrastructure capacities to achieve inclusive and sustainable growth as the fundamental of economic development.
