Event Details

The Meredith Fine Craft Gallery is hosting a special 4-part lecture series: The Art of Photography Retold.

This series is intended as an educational opportunity to enhance your knowledge of traditional photography, and to meet a diverse group of photographers who use the wet darkroom in their unique ways.

Make plans to join us for a journey into the art behind photography – from the camera used to getting into “the zone”.

The second lecture takes place on Monday, July 24, 2017 at 6:30 – 7:30 PM and will feature John Layton, award winning freelance photographer, writer, and photography educator. He enjoys capturing photographs of the Southwest desert and the mountains, forests, islands, and coasts of New England. He designs and builds large-format cameras, and has patented his latest model, the L-45A, which has earned several photographic industry awards. John will discuss the importance of analog photography in a digital world. He will demonstrate his approach and techniques in the making of a photograph from start to finish, using his own large format camera and other equipment. You will learn about how the subject “speaks” to the photo artist and some of the methods used in the darkroom. Framed prints will be on display for viewing and discussion.

All lectures in the series are free and open to the public, and will be held at the Meredith Community Center, 1 Circle Drive in Meredith, NH 03253.

The third lecture features Nan Scull on August 21, and the final lecture features Bonnie Edwards on September 11.

To inquire about the lectures, call us at (603) 279-7920 or stop into the gallery at 279 Daniel Webster Highway, Meredith, NH.
