The Lakes Region Symphony Orchestra (LRSO) invites you to our Welcome Spring! concert on Saturday March 18, 2017 at 7:30pm at newly-renovated theater at Inter-Lakes high school in Meredith.

The program includes an eclectic mix of selections from the poetic to the magnificent. Selections include the thought-provoking tone poem Anishinaabeg Rhapsody by local composer Ken Piotrowski, the beautiful and haunting “Nimrod” from Elgar’s Enigma Variations, the divine interplay between strings and orchestra in Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante for Violin and Viola, and the sumptuous, and perhaps Dvorak’s most famous work, “Symphony No. 9 (New World Symphony)”.

Many works – many backgrounds. The Anishinaabeg Rhapsody, a tone-poem unlike standard orchestral music, paints images and thoughts of the indigenous tribes that inhabited the upper peninsula of Michigan. LRSO violinist Margaret Hopkins and violist Sally Wituszynski are featured on Sinfonia Concertante, Mozart’s last concerted work for strings, contains rich themes and passion perhaps atypical for its time in the late 1700’s. Nimrod, from the Enigma Variations, is the most well-loved of Elgar’s Variations, a deeply moving work written for his close friend August Jaeger. And finally Dvorak’s landmark Symphony No. 9 “From the New World” depicts the composer’s bold and inimitable impressions of America during his visit in 1892, building glorious themes inspired by simple folk songs.

This March 18th concert is the third in the LRSO’s spectacular 2016-2017 season.
