On Saturday, June 18th at 2 pm we will host “Songs of Life, Laughter, and Longing”, a vocal performance with piano accompaniment by Betsy Feiker and Jill Slocum.
Betsy Feiker, mezzo soprano, has sung with several area choruses–including Granite State Opera, NH Music Festival, Nashoba Valley Chorale, and most recently, Monadnock Chorus and Nashua Choral Society. She was the alto soloist in Handel’s Messiah (Nashua Choral Society and Nashoba Valley Chorale), Mozart’s Requiem and Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610 (Monadnock Chorus), Haydn’s Mass in Time of War (Nashua Choral Society), and Handel’s Dixit Dominus, Haydn’s Nelson Mass, Schubert’s Mass in C, and Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms (Nashoba Valley Chorale). She has also sung the roles of the Sorceress and the Second Witch in concert performances of Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas (Nashua Choral Society and Nashoba Valley Chorale, respectively). Betsy has performed several concerts of Baroque music, most recently Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater in Western MA and Peterborough, NH, and she has given several solo recitals, featuring music of Bach, Vivaldi, Mendelssohn, and Charles Ives. From 2005 to 2015 she was the soloist for the First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Milford, NH. Betsy currently studies voice with Phil Lauriat of Temple, NH.
Jill Slocum, accompanist, has been involved with choral accompanying since high school in Connecticut and college in Maine. More recently, she has accompanied various community choruses in southern New Hampshire, as well as solo recitalists. Jill studied organ with Romette Arnold at the University of Maine, and she has held numerous organist positions since then. Jill was the co-founder of the New Hampshire Chamber Choir, a group dedicated to performing sacred music of the Baroque Period. The chamber choir performed several of JS Bach’s cantatas at area churches as well as the Pergolesi Stabat Mater at St. Luke’s Anglican Church in Amherst, New Hampshire. Jill currently sings with the Monadnock Chorus, where she is co-section leader for the altos. She is also the rehearsal accompanist for the annual Mont Vernon Messiah Christmas Concert
Please join us at the concert. We are asking $10 admittance to support the church and our music program. There will also be a reception with lots of good food downstairs after the concert so you can fraternize with the performers.
In July, we will host Veronica Lewis & Family. Please watch for more details next month.
